Today, we're taking a look at Stretch and Total Tone Yoga with Lori. This is a yoga class with a strong emphasis on movement to achieve flexibility, balance, and muscle development.
What to expect
Stretch and Total Tone is a very dynamic, interactive yoga class. You are encouraged to ask questions, talk, laugh. We listen to classic rock, sometimes country, sometimes blues or current music because this class should be about letting go, while having fun. We're in a gym. In a gym, we exercise. This class is an evenly paced exercise class with yoga movements. It is a "FLOW" class, which means we stay in motion for much of the class. There are very few "hold the pose" segments. In general, we start with a seated warm up, followed by moving to our hands and knees to work the spine, hips and legs. Then, the real fun begins with a combination of planks, down dogs, warriors, seated stretches, standing stretches, and ab work, all of which prepares us for the best part of the class...relaxation.
What should I bring?
If you have your own yoga mat, please bring it. No worries if you don't. We have mats. It's important to stay hydrated, so a bottle of water may be necessary. We rarely use yoga blocks or straps. No need to bring them along. Please try to arrive 5 minutes before class.
Does it meet my goals?
If you're looking to improve flexibility and balance, as well as develop muscle strength, this class is for you.
What if I have Limitations?
Class attendees should be able to get up and down on a yoga mat with little or no difficulty. Limited variations of poses can be offered. This is a listen to your body class. If it hurts, don't do it. Lori does not do hands on adjustments. This class is for all levels, but we encourage those that have limited or no yoga experience to join the class.
This class is currently held on Tuesdays at 10:15 am downstairs in our fitness room. Give it a try!
